How do Doctors treat Typhoid Fever?

Typhoid fever can be fatal disease. When untreated, typhoid fever persists for three weeks to a month. Death occurs in between 10 percent and 30 percent of untreated cases. With appropriate antibiotic therapy, there is usually improvement within one to two days and recovery within seven to 10 days. Chloramphenicol was the original drug of choice for many years but because of rare serious side effects, chloramphenicol has been replaced by other effective antibiotics. Those who become chronically ill can be treated with prolonged antibiotics. Often, removal of the gallbladder, the site of chronic infection, will
 provide a cure.

Prevention is always better than cure.

You can play an important role in fighting against typhoid fever. Washing your hands before every time you eat food should be one of your habits for preventing typhoid fever. You can keep your surroundings clean and spread awareness about typhoid fever. One of the best ways typhoid fever is prevented is by getting a vaccination. Typhim Vi, which is an intramuscular killed-bacteria vaccination, and Vivotif, a live, oral bacteria vaccination, both protect against typhoid fever. Neither vaccine is 100 percent effective against typhoid fever therefore we need to take some measures ourselves in order to protect our self from Typhoid Fever!
